In the upstairs apartment, you will find…
Beach towels. Please shake out the sand when you return from the beach.
Coleman beach chairs in bags that are very comfortable. Please rinse off the beach chairs when you return from the beach and let them dry. There are two upstairs. If you need more, please let us know.
Two ice chests. One large and one small soft sided. Please rinse your ice chest when you return from the beach and let it dry with the lid open. There are reusable ice bags in the freezer. We also have snorkel gear available for your use and a beach umbrella.
Don’t forget to take bug spray, sunscreen, something to eat, and plenty of fluids.
Take as few valuables to the beach as possible. If you drive to the beach, leave your car empty, unlocked, and your windows rolled down. If you take something valuable, take it to the water’s edge and keep an eye on it. It is always good to have a beach “spotter” if you can find one (in your group, or even in someone else’s group).
Sun Bay has restrooms. As for the rest of the beaches, good luck! Playa Caracas (the former Red Beach) has two pit toilets that may be full (i.e., not operational). La Chiva has pit toilets at #5 and #14 (ditto on the non-operational). There is also a restroom on the road to the Reserve beaches, on the right-hand side, opposite the maintenance area. Other than these beaches and the maintenance area pit-stop, you are pretty much on your own.
Playa Caracas (and some of the other beaches) have sand spurs. These are nasty little weeds that will wreck your towels and wreck your feet. Try to avoid them at all costs.
Watch out for horses on the road if you drive. If you take a publico or taxi, please arrange a pickup time in advance, as cell phone service can be spotty to non-existant on the Caribbean side of the island.
Some of the beaches have trash cans. Please remember to dispose of your trash in a trash can or bring it back to town. If every beach visitor took a bag of trash home (or put it in a trash can at the beach), our beaches would be the cleanest beaches in the world!
